Because it all wore out many years ago! And it hasn't been available for many years either.
Originality matter a lot to some people and with this you could create a mould and reproduce something that is actually RARE!

The high price is because its rarer than gold plated rocking horse pooh. Id love one for my pickup but at £226.39 its a bit out of my league now, and with 18 bids theres a lot of keen bidders. Ive got one in the pickup underneath a newton commercial carpet but its in a few more parts than that one!

How would someone go about making copies from a rubber mat?

How would someone go about making copies from a rubber mat?
You can see the principal here;

Only one side of the mat is important so a single sided mould would do.

There will be companies that specialise in this process, once you have an original to create a mould from, it has to be doable.

the tooling up would be quite expensive and also the mat would probably have a patent on it

It looks to be an absolute bargain " Perfect condition as unused, except for one or two cracks where it has been folded " Good grief. And as for making a mould - joking surely ?? It's a floppy rubber mat.........

Get a grip!

Never heard of vacuum moulding?

There are some issues, it's big, and a bit 3D, but a mock up of a Minor floor some thin polythene and a vacuum cleaner and you could have the basis for a good mould.

Our engineering department has a camera set up that will scan something in 3D and create an autocad file that you can feed into a CNC machine to recreate it.

What is that worth then?

I'm rather surprised at the defeatist attitude, maybe the "can do" thing is just in America?

He's right guys. It could be used as the basis of a mould for a repro product and there wouldn't be any intellectual property issues with it as they have long since expired.

Whither it would be a commercially viable proposition is another matter but I see that it's now on at £460 so someone really really wants it.

Oh yes - I have been involved in vacuum moulding on an industrial scale(car dash panels etc) - I really do think the clue is above - 'Minor floor pan'! That will make a better mould basis than this poor floppy cracked thing!!

I think it is great that you tell it as it is. :D Someone is going to get a perished floppy bit of rubber for £500, I dont really care that it is original, I would be happy to replace some carpet 7 times!

Sure except supply = 1.

How about golden rocking horce poo embedded with hens teeth?

This actually RARE, if anyone has seen one since 1973, that's 37 years, then it was a long time ago and they never knew how RARE it would become.

They went into LCVs not limos, they got used every day and the rubber floor covering wore out, by about 1975 at a guess.

I used to fit rocking horse poo instead of carpet but it just got a bit slippy when it rained. Bet for £500 my mate the carpet/vinyl fitter could make something similar!
