It takes 1000s of miles to wear through a set so I doubt anyone can give a definitive answer.
You can get ones with two grease nipples but they wont be any better unless they get greased.

Are you hoping to just change the trunnions - or are you fitting complete new king-pin assemblies ?

Back in August I bought a full set of king pins and trunnions from Bull Motif and have been completely happy with them. I've only covered a couple of thousand miles since fitting them, but so far so good. They are advertised as 'Original MOWOG' which in this case means they are made to the exact standards of the originals, and even look identical.

The biggest problem of course (as is being discussed in another thread ) is the removal of the old steering arms....

Removal of steering arms is much easier than you think. Just undo the steering arm nut a few turns, then place the steering arm LOOSELY in a large vice with the jaws of the vice resting against the swivel pin, then give a couple of sharp blows to the steering arm nut. It will come out easily. I did both sides of mine like that.

What is the consensus re: Changing just the trunnions as opposed to the whole swivel plus trunnions?? I am going to rebuild my front end shortly with Poly bushes to eliminate a bit of knocking I have, and thought I would fit new trunnions both sides as well, seeing as they are so affordable. But I won't be replacing the swivel pin as the ones on my early Series II are not easy to find, and upgrading to a later version involves a bit of work with hubs, bearings and spacers etc. Do the trunnions wear out faster than the swivel arm thread?

They do, it's sound engineering practice to make the cheaper, easier to remove bits softer so they wear first.

I would have to disagree there - in my experience they wear 50/50. But at least fitting new trunnions will take up half the wear! And that may be sufficient to get another 10 or even 20 or 30 thousand miles out of the king pins!!

I suspect that the MM type swivel pins have been on your car for some time and may have already had a set or two replacement trunnions. So I would examine the threads carefully.
If you need them then the instructions for modifying the hubs are on the Series MM website under Tech. Info.

So what am I looking for when I trial fit the new trunnions? If the pins are worn will I be able to feel any play by hand with new trunnions screwed on?
