rustproofing box sections

having eventually got the rear spring hangers on primrose replaced, she is sitting at the garage waiting for mot, the machanic/welder has said they the inners of the box sections could do with a good coat of rusterproofer gunk stuff. is this easy todo?

Yes - waxoyl thinned slightly with turps substitute - and warmed in a bucket of boiling water - and then sprayed in with a gun on the compressor. At a push - hand spray can be done using empty bottles from the under the kitchen sink!

so, how does one get it into the "sealed" box sections?

If there are no holes -you have to drill new ones. But pretty much all have good access - the rear chassis rails need additional holes - put grommets in afterwards

You can get to the rear chassis leg/hanger via the inside of the boot- look at the bottom of the wheel arch at each corner of the boot and you will see the square holes that are the ends of the rear spring hanger box section, as this section is not closed off. There may be a bit of foam there, pull the foam out and spray inside using a lance and a schutz gun.

Start with the lance stuck as far as you can into the box section then as you spray, withdraw!

These schutz/ wax guns need to be used with a compressor- the garage should have something like this themselves and it should not cost much for them to do this. If you do not have access to a compressor, and do not already already have the tool, more cost effective for the garage to do this. You can buy the wax though- Dinitrol 3125 is available from Minor parts suppliers, or you can get the Dynax can with the spray lance.

Having tried and given up with the hand pumps- compressed air power is the way to do this job!
