Hi Guys,

What are the differences/advantages of the different engine breathers? The 1098 engine I'm rebuilding has the plain pipe type tappet chest cover breather, whereas the 1098 in my 4 door has a canister type breather. Which one is better?

Also what is the difference between the breather and non breather rocker cover (apart from the obvious).

Just the obvious really.

Of more interest is what the pipe connects to, to air cleaner gives minimal suction, A carb with a fitting for it is much better, or a restricted tapping into the manifold is good too.
The restriction should be to an eighth of an inch.

Use the canister side plate - helps to prevent oil being 'blow' out - but as Marky says - get the best suction going on the crankcase. My view - rocker cover breather connected straight to the carb side inlet. Any other breather just let open to allow air to flush through the crankcase and carry water vapour into the engine - through the rocker breather!
