No fuel filter!

Hello, been a while. Morris has been layed-up for about 3 months now and now i've finally got round to looking at him! Icant believe I didnt notice this before.....theres no fuel filter. At all! The previous owner fitted a new fuel pump for me when I bought it but seemed to have forgotten to put the filter back between the pump and carb! Nice one.

Any way, Morris started actin' up a while ago then stopped altogether. Any chance that having un-filtered fuel could do this? Has the carb clogged up or been damaged in some way? Fuel is still getting as far as the carb but the engine isnt starting.

Isn't there a filter in the pump? Anyway, that doesn't seem to be your problem as you have fuel at the carb. Have you checked for a spark?

The filter is contained in the SU petrol pump. DO NOT fit an additional filter - it only leads to problems. The SU carb can handle dirty fuel without any problems - there are no tiny jets to get blocked!!

HAHA, wish you'd been around earlier! After checking a few things to no avail we checked for a spark. Nope, no spark. The lead that runs to the distributer cap had corroded (anything that normally causes this?) so there was no connection. Sorted that and he started up 1st time and is now running btter than ever! Sorted the timing while I was at it. Poor Moggies been sitting there for 3 months for no reason othere than my own ineptitude!

Cheers for the replys
