My new toy

Post by Pikey »

This is my new toy/project. Its called a Toylander and its based on a Series 2 Landrover 90.

Google toylander, I think they're brilliant things. Im building it up for my boys for christmas, Ive currently spent about 10ish hours on it, mostly in the evenings after the boys have gone to bed.

The tub is almost complete, Im planning on completing the dash tonight and then Im pretty much ready for paint prep work.

Paint colour wise, I was thinking of Marine Blue which is the light blue that you see landrovers painted with.

I thought Land Rovers come in any colour you like, as long as it's green.

This one hasnt got an engine, although you could probably fit one. Its design is intended to hold an electric wheelchair type motor under the seat which drives one of the rear wheels by means of a chain. Theres a twin motor modification you can buy too, but Im just running the single motor for the time being. The battery or batteries live under the bonnet in the front.

As regards chassis it doesnt really use a chassis as such, and the main tub being made of 12mm MDF is pretty rigid and the axles both front and rear bolt through the main floor by mean of fairly substantial bracketry.

Click here for a bit more info.

Mine is a pre cut panel kit, as in Ive bought the pre cut panels and basically screwed it all together, I know that if I bought the plans and cut it myself it would never get built :D

Apparently I can expect to get range of about 4 miles out of a standard car battery and that was with the lights working, but time will tell eh, lets get it finished first.

I used to know one of these called 'I'm a Little Sorry' - it was a mini replica of a full sized oldie called 'Sorry' - me and my friend drove it round LR shows each year until this monstrosity got itself banned from shows due to a run at Weston park... >>

For some reason when Ive uploaded the photos from photobucket to this website it seems to have chopped the right hand side off each photo. Click on the below to see the build.

Looks just like clipper blue.
Older and more confused than I could ever imagine possible.

It's looking great...your little lad's eyes are going to pop out of their heads when they see it at Christmas !!

Must be time to get the dust sheet over it, just in case it is discovered prematurely.
