Morris Minor Owners Club

Hello all,

I've had a quick rummage around on the internet but can't locate the boot dimensions for the Morris minor traveller. Apologies if I'm missing a really obvious web resource! Could anyone spare 5 mins to go and measure their traveller boot please?

I'm considering a traveller as our second classic, we currently have a 1933 Austin 7 which I love dearly but is about to become impractical as we are expecting 2nd child in March 2011 and we won't all fit in the 7
Boot dimensions will help me choose a pram as I need something which will stow neatly in the back. The plan would be for the traveller to be my everyday car.

measurements and any thoughts / advice welcome.

Hi AG, welcome to the Forum.

I'm afraid I dont have a trav handy to measure up, but I cant imagine you would have any problem at all getting a pram in the back!

A Traveller is a great choice for an everyday car as (IMHO) it the most practical car of all the minors however they do require a little more TLC as the wood is structural and needs looking after with attention on an annual basis at least.

Edit: Any chance we can see the 7 (just for the sake of nosiness of course... )

There she is! 1933 Austin 7 RP saloon, cosmetically scruffy but very reliable and much loved. I've had her since 2000 and would drive anywhere in her. We had a baby seat for DD1 which secured via a ratchet strap to 2 u bolts fitted to the centre bodywork, but that necessatated taking the back seat out which was fine when it was just the 3 of us but I've no clue how we would fix a baby seat to the back and have room for DD1 to sit alongside??

Also, who really needs an excuse to add another classic to the family garage

Hi and welcome to this site. I have an original sales brochure for the Traveller for a 1962 (like mine)

dimensions are: Depth (with rear seat up) 31" (with seat folded down 50")

Width between wheel arches 39"

well the spec did change over in late 63 - mostly cosmetic though.

DD, DH etc are originally American forum shorthand but they are the "norm" on most of the forums I visit. I'm not an MSE user but might need to be in order to fund the proposed traveller!

It seems a shame to part with the Austin just because of another child. We had 3 young children in the back of my Series MM.
Can't you fit a boot rack to the back of the Austin for the pram and have enough room inside for the children?

Mike the Traveller will be a addition to the fleet. They're not going to sell the Austin

As regaliaqueen (good name) says, we're not selling the Austin, is a much loved part of the family! The space issue is only a problem while the impending baby is under 3 yrs old as they have to be in a proper child seat, after age 3 they can roll around in the back all perfectly legal.
I just have a hankering for a "proper" car to be able to use everyday and the traveller struck me as a practical option. Supercute and a roomier back seat for small peopleand their safety equipment!

Excellent choice as they carry a lot of luggage/prams/beer/spares/DIY bits etc than most cars of the same external dimensions.

Sorry, misinterpreted the word impractical!
In that case a Traveller is an excellent choice, you can fit the supermarket shopping in as well.
If you are fitting rear seat belts in the Traveller you will need the Securon Pn 264s, not the 254s, despite what it says on the box. The 254s are too short

Must say it's been a lovely welcome to the world of Morris-ing, if I wasn't already convinced by the charm of the cars then the friendliness of the forum would certainly have won me over!
