My traveller from 1963 was working fine.
Today for the first time I have a ringing noise while second and only second gear is engaged.
Any suggestion?
Does the gearbox need a surgical intervention?

It is very difficult to know what to suggest here but here are some questions that only you can answer.
Have you checked the oil level in the gearbox?
Is the noise getting worse from one day to the next?
Do you do long fast journeys where a breakdown would be a serious problem or do you do short slow journeys that do not take you far from home?
Your gearbox probably doesn't have much wrong with it but it would be a big job to remove it and take it apart. Are you able to do this yourself?
