Hi Guys,

How difficult would it be to change the bellhousing on a 1098/1275 gearbox? There is a damaged 'box on fleabay at the moment, and would it be worth the hassle?

Cheers

John

Very difficult, it is part of the main casting. I suppose it could be done, but would involve a lot of machining.

It would be easier to get another box

There is no separate bellhousing - how badly damaged is the ebay box ?

Hi Guys,

The Ebay box has a section of the mounting flange missing. I have a "spare" 1098 gearbox, but I'm wondering if it is worth transfering the internals over. However, the 'box still won't fit in my Splitscreen without cutting a section out of the floor, or using the 803 gearlever conversion, and, as I already have a Ford Type 9 gearbox "kicking about", it may just be worth biting the bullet and fitting the Ford 'box and be done with it.

Regards

John

If it's the one I have seen - with just a bit at the top missing - just use it! And yes - fit the 803 lever and leave the floor etc looking original.
