Traveller registration help please!

Post by dnac »

Hi, just won the bidding on a traveller on ebay, problem is the guy now tells me there is no logbook  , He gave me the reg number, but the DVLA don't recognise it as registered to any car. I have asked him for the chassis number, if I get it, is there anyway of checking the car is legit?

Thanks

Dave

Not having a log book doesn't mean it's dodgy and DVLA will let you apply for the V5 but don't guarantee you will get the same reg number. It would be worth a visit to your local DVLA office before parting with any cash or phone up DVLA in Swansea just to get the correct info. I might be tempted to ask for a bit off the price of the car for your hassle though especially if the seller didn't state that it had no V5.

As Jeff says - you can apply for the log book by submitting all the details (chassis number/engine number/colour/ no of seats etc etc) + crisp £5 note - a few pictures of the car will help - and a letter from the seller explaining he has owned the car for X years - and lost the log book, and is now passing title to you. If he has some old MOT certificates that would help too. The ultimate 'evidence' would be a Factory Build Certificate from Heritage. Yes - worth asking for a bit off to cover all the hassle - or walk away.

'Fraid it's £25 now. I had to do this for my Traveller last year.
