Glove box lids and inners?

Post by wells01 »

Hello
My 63 4 door has glovebox inserts with a chrome plastic trim around the edge. I have bought glovebox lids to fit, they are the kind that fit into the hole. What I cant understand is how the glovebox liner fits in with the lid, I realise that I will have to lose the chrome plastic trim, but should it fit under the lid hinge or above it or somehow I havnt thought of.
Many thanks

There were 2 types of open gloveboxes. The early ones did not have a chrome plastic ring and sat inside the recess. This is the type you need for fitting lids. You may be able to fit your later liners to the inside ie you need to be able to see the metal flange all around the apperture..

The glovebox lids you need are the flat type ('61 - '64) not not later slightly rounded ones as these fit flush to the chrome centre dash which the earlier cars (like yours i.e. pull start) did not have.

Suppliers make the little clipos that help with fitting the gloveboxes into the hole. Once you've got these fitted corrctly turn your attention to the doors. Don't try to fit them all together. My car ('62 Traveller) didn't originally have doors so it was a bit of a fiddle to fit them. We had to drill holes for the hinges, but yours may already have them. Glove boxes were fitted in '61 cars and then not in '62 :o I found that the only way we could fit them was to remove the piece of chrome (flat oblong) which fits between the hinges on the flat edge of the glovebox as this prevents the door fitting. All the rest of the chrome around the glovebox was ok. Hope this helps
