hi, my wipers are over wiping!! they are making a thud on the bottom of the windscreen and one is coming off the windscreen on the drivers side. i've done all the usual adjustments, and have now taken a good look at the gearbox. the final gear has stamped on it 150 degrees, any idea if this is the correct final gear of has my car got the wrong one in? its a 1968 saloon by the way. cheers!

Have you taken the glove boxes out and checked that the wheel box clamping bolts are tight? There should be no movement of the outer casing. Also check that the wiper spindles are clamped firmly to the body and the wiper arms are tight on the spindles.
Replace the grease in the wiper motor box if it has gone hard

You say 'usual adjustments' - but have you simply tried moving the arms round on the splines slightly ?

yes 150 is the correct wheel

The best way to get 'new' wipers is to remove the arms, mark the splined shafts at 12 o'clock - then withdraw the rack. Turn the wheels 180 degrees - turn the rack over (apply some grease) - and re-insert the rack. Check the marks are now at 6 o'clock - and you should now have brand new surfaces against each other and wiper action like new! Unless of course someone already did this 20 years ago.......

thanks everyone, yes i have checked that everything is secure that should be as i have had most of it off just recently, and re greased the rack as that was dry and manky.

yes ive moved the arms round on the spindles.

they weren't thuding or overwiping until i re greased the rack..... mind you they weren't really doing much before tho!

dont fancy getting 'new wiper action' as i'm fed up of taking my glove box liners out!!!!, but if needs must.....

No need to remove gloveboxes - the rack should feed through itself.......
