Just got around to ordering upholstery bits but have a couple of questions.
I have a late 1954 Series 2 Traveller the seats are dark red but everything else is missing. Should the luggage area be black, grey or match the seats. Should it have rear wheel arch covers and should there be side panels above the rear wheel arches. There seems to some variations I can't find information on so consult the experts!

To be able to get the correct "match" what colour is the car?

It could have been Clarendon Grey, Black, Smoke Blue or Sandy Beige to have had the dark red seats.

The luggage area should be grey, no wheelarch covers just on the back of the seat and over the plywood floors. The aluminum panels are left visible and should be body colour. I will have mine traveller out tomorrow and will take a pic.

Lou. My traveller is clarenden grey with dark red /maroon seats, should the carpets be maroon as well and did some cars have a lighter red for the carpets?
David. Is the grey for the load area a light grey or dark grey. The one that came of is very dark grey (could be dirty!) and some suppliers say it was seat/carpet colour others say it was black but the material is not now available so if should be grey with nothing on the wheel arches or side panel I'll go with that. Would like to know what shade of grey.

Hi there

Split screen travellers actually came with a rubber mat like the LCVs instead of carpets, which you cant get anymore, but later ones had red carpets. The load area is like a light grey material with no covering on the rear arches. hope this helps and keep us posted.

Is the no wheel arch covering an early trav thing? Both of the later ones I've had have had something there. Cant remember what it was on the 64, but the 71 did have a wheelarch covering the same as the load area... (and of course trim cards to hide the back of the ali panels)

no, splitscreen travellers and early 1000s had no covering on the rear wheel arches.

Jon Pressnell in his book "Morris Minor The Official Photo Album refers to the early Ser II (cheesegrater) having a one piece rubber flooring rather than carpet - the De Luxe had carpeting on the wheelarches only and boot matting held down with the bars.
On Ser II Travellers (and most 948 cc cars) the wheelarches and the side panel behind the rear seat were uncovered and the boot area uncovered.
Travellers with the rubber matting didn't have the heelboard carpeted either (piece of verticle carpet under rear seat)

I personally did some of the research for Jon regarding Ser II Travellers trying to find out exactly when they went to a full carpet set. I drew a complete blank - so we came to the conclusion it must have been late on in the Ser II, just before the Oct '56 revamp.

John, when I bought my traveller it had a very dark browny grey (almost like rose taupe!!) covering on the floor and back of the seat, this was falling apart and seems to be no longer available. I used the readily available light grey mats from a later traveller though without the wheelarch panels.

Heres a slighty dodgy pic of my boot area....... I got a phone call about taking part in a documentary for the BBC about the Claudy Bombing in 1972. They used a mini traveller, a minor van and a cortina to transport the bombs into the town and my traveller was the nearest they could find to a mini traveller at short notice! The documentary is to be on BBC1 next tuesday at 10.30, its called spotlight and may only be aired in Northern Ireland but Im sure it could be found on iplayer or the like.

So heres my boot complete with a replicia 300lb bomb in a milk churn.......[frame][/frame][frame][/frame]

The wooden bit on the back seat should be covered in red vinyl, but i took this off before the National this year as it was falling apart and havent yet got around to recovering it. There should also be a triangular wooden block on the top of each wheelarch that hides the end of the interoir panel that havent yet been varnished and fitted.

My Traveller had browny grey on the luggage area floor but as you say it is no longer available. The headlining was the same colour and I can't get that either. Will look for the BBC feature if it is on here.

Thanks for all the other replies they will help when I order the stuff I need.

The head lining in mine was a sort of beige colour. Again I couldnt get exactly the same stuff but found a good option in a local upholesters. Its a sort of black out materail witha PVC backing so it sticks easily to the hard board panel without the glue seeping through.[frame][/frame]
This was it all glued on and ready to refit to the car.
