does anyone know what the running temp should be for a 1275, as i have just fitted a temp gauge which reads half way between n and h .it doesnt increase but holds steady.i wounder if the gauge i have ,which i got second hand is of a car that runs at a lower temp ....

It will run at whatever temp the thermostat is rated at. Prob around 80 - 85 degC

Is it a capillery or electric gauge? If it is a Smiths electric it should probably be wired through the voltage stabiliser. If the only figures on the dial are H N C then it should read Normal. You are better off getting a gauge with actual temperature figures on it

sorry to steal the thread but, i fitted mine this weekend, and it shows 70 but it goes down to about 50 everynow and again is this normal

Probably - when the thermostat opens. If you want the heater to work - fit a higher rated thermostat (88 or even 92) for winter.

the heater is very hot already :D
