Hi Guys,
Has anyone got any experience of a 1098cc engine married to a 5 Speed Ford gearbox?
I'm uncertain wether to put the 5 speed box on the 1098cc in my '69 4 door or mate it to the 1275cc and put it in my '56 splitscreen.
Cheers
John

I've got no direct experience, but I'm not really sure why a 1098 would need another gear. The existing box serves it all right, doesn't it? I'm only going off of foggy hearsay here. But the logic is: if it's not broken, why fix it?
A 1275, though, I would definitely think requires a higher top gear than the 1098 box would provide.

The easy/cheap answer is to use a 3.7 final drive with the standard gearbox. But - some like the feel of having a 5 speed box, and why not/!

I've used Ford 5 speed with Minor 1098 for years. Works fine, but you will need to change down from 5th to 4th on long motorway hills. Overall a great improvement.
