Here's an interesting item a mate of mine found on the net. I have 20W halogen bulbs as indicator lamps and it makes a great difference. This unit is quite a good idea when they need replacing.

Anyone know how they work as flasher bulbs - do they affect the flash rate in any way ?

I'm aware of that website but the advantage is you only have to replace the bulb if it blows and not the whole thing. The flash rate is slightly slower on mine but not worth worrying about and so much brighter.

Are halogen bulbs really a good idea?

They run so much hotter and if the number we have to keep replacing in the kitchen is anything to go by they have a very short life span.

I converted to LED bulbs throughout the car, you have to be very selective about which ones to use but all the replacements I have are brighter and lower energy use for a couple of quid per bulb. The only extra expense was replacing the flasher unit (don't add resistors, its a waste of energy and makes a mess of the wiring)

I'm certainly not one to waste energy but I was concerned with the brightness. I tried both LED and halogen and I didn't find the LED's that I bought much brighter than the standard bulbs to warrant changing the wiring. I am pleased with the halogen but only time will tell how long they will last and if there's a problem with the heat dissipation.
