Painting advice needed please

I have a dent about the size of a 1p piece, and a few other smaller marks near it, on a rear wing. I had a quote yesterday for £300 to sort it out, which prompted an apoplectic response from me. I know that to have bodywork done properly is expensive but there are other things I'd rather spend that much money on. The car was re-sprayed in 2pack a few years ago and is still in really good condition, so I don't want to wizz over it with a bit of 80 grit sandpaper and slap some Dulux on it. One option is to get other quotes, but I was wondering if it would be worth considering using cans of spray paint. It's an older BMC colour, I have the code, so I'd need to have it mixed. I realise that the finish from a can won't come close to using proper equipment, but I'm optimistic that by using rubbing compounds and a random orbit sander with a lambswool bonnet it could be more than acceptable. Any thoughts? The other option is to leave it, but I'm fed-up with looking at it and with hearing other people admiring the car but saying 'pity about that wing'.

A decent spray shop would be able to match the existing if you take the car to them and they should be able to provide aerosol cans in that matching shade.
Then it's down to you to prep carefully and respray damaged area, lots of care will produce good /excellent results.
Go for it and treat yourself after to a decent bottle of wine with what you have saved or a pint if so inclined.

If the paint isn't damaged there are several firms that will sort the dent out for less than £100.
Try this search;

Dent doctor talks a lot about minor repairs which is amusing, but just find someone in your area who does this kind of work.
A search for "dent repair kit" will bring up DIY solutions for even less money.

This is the problem with 2 pack paint - I'm not sure how good a job you will get with a spray can against the 2 pack. What colour is it ? Bull Motif sell cans of the popular Minor colours quite cheaply - certainly worth a go. As for £300 - aye right!!

It's BMC Dark Green. I know that paint from spray cans is designed to be laquered over, whereas the 2 pack is'nt. If I go down the spray can route presumably I'd have to laquer it, in which case I'm not sure if it will look different.

just about gauranteed that the repair will look worse than the dent.it's not just about the colour match its also about blending in the repair with the existing paint .It needs feather edging or you will see the ring of new paint,and filler,the dent needs sanding down to bare metel or the paint will lift the edge of the filler and form a ring ,theres also a chance that the new paint will lift the old 2 pack at the repair site ,which is about impossible to get rid of, spot repair are a very difficult skill to master thats why body shops will always try to spray the whole panel its quicker and less damanding if the paint is not damaged I would leave well alone or go down the dent remover fix,very effective but a bit pricey but not£300

Try a smart repair company like chips away / dent devils, they should be able to take the dent out and make any paint repairs blended in nicely and cheaper and without repainting the whole car!
