Have 56 Series II.
Oil leak from round the halfshaft both sides.
Taken apart only paper gasket no groove for rubber "O" ring oil seal in either the wheel bearing holder or half shaft???
Do I just replace the paper gasket and use gaskets sealer???

That sounds right. The large O-ring was added later on, prior to that it was the gasket only. There is also an oil seal inside the hub.

last one I did on mine I just used a smear of instant gasket, four years ago still ok. the inner one leaks into the back of the brake drum but there should be an opening at the bottom of the back plate to let any oil out without getting onto the brake shoes, make sure its cleaned out its like a groove that leads to the outside on the bottom.

Make sure the breather on the diff casing is not blocked - and the diff oil level is not too high.
