Removing clutch and brake pedal

Hi all,

I have completely stripped my Morris, literally the only detachable thing still attached to the body shell are the clutch and brake pedals. I really want to get them out so that I can thoroughly clean and rustproof the chassis leg.

From the manuals and my own inspection it appears that the only thing holding the pedals on is a castle nut and locating washer on the outside of the chassis leg, which thread onto the clutch pedal shaft which goes right through the chassis leg, and also through the brake pedal.

So in essence when the nut is removed the clutch pedal should just pull out through the chassis leg. Is this right? Because I cannot for the life of me get it out, even with a massive amount of hammering. There is a spacer between the two pedals, could this be rusted solid to the clutch pedal shaft? If so is there any way I can cut it out without knackering the pedal?

I have just done this. I found the spacer was seized onto the shaft so I held the spacer with some stilsons and then yanked the clutch pedal forwards and back until it freed. It then pulled out okay but the shaft is so corroded I now need a new clutch pedal.

Damn! It sounds like I am in the same boat. I'm tempted to let sleeping dogs lie, but I'm trying to make sure I get to every nook and cranny. Thanks for the tip on how you got it off, I'm going to see how much a new clutch pedal costs before I go any further

Just check for sideways play on both pedals, if there's no play you will be okay. My brake pedal was real sloppy.

Soak thoroughly in proper Release Oil (ie NOT WD40!) - and be prepared to apply heat.

Yeah, think I'm going to get some plusgas on the way to work tomorrow. Heat from a blowtorch presumably?

Gas blowtorch is a very useful inexpensive tool! Of course - Plus Gas etc is highly flammable - so take care!
