woodwork is not included in mot??

my local village garage says woodwork is not an mot failure is he correct

He is correct in that there is no longer a failure code for wood on a vehicle but as the structural integrity of the vehicle relies on the wood I would imagine most testers would bin the failure somewhere else....

seems madness as in the 70 s 
i was failed all the time on the woodwork and as you say its structural . have you any idea when this came out about the woodwork ?

When the system became "computerised" a few years ago.
I suspect if the wood is really bad and things are about to fall off then they will fail the car due to "insecure this that and the other" or "sharp edges" etc. But in practise it means you can get away for a few years with wood filler and wood stain while you save up for a new side(s) of wood!
