What are peoples views on fitting an in line fuel filter between the fuel pump & carb?

At first i thought it seems like a good idea, till I remembered that the SU pump on the Minor already has one. But on further investigation it seems like an additional filter will catch finer bits than on the SU filter (up to 40 microns). Another good thing is that with the glass ones it is possible to see if the pump has stopped working.

But I'm still in two minds about it, baring in mind i found a divice for cleaning the dipstick on the same page as these fuel filters. Are they a gimmick?

MGBs have them, fit one, it can't do any harm.

You are right to doubt the built in filter, it is brass guase and lets silt through.
However, it makes the pump work a bit harder so not a win/win situation.

There is also a catch tank in the bottom of the float chamber. Anything that gets past that will get burned in the combustion process.

been fitting them for years. i'd fit it at the tank end though. clean the fuel before it travel's up the pipe. if you want easier access, then fit it to the pipe that flows into the pump.

We've been over this LOTS just recently - don't bother with a filter - it only adds to the suction that the pump was to cope with and can help to cause fuel vapourisation in hot weather. The SU carb can cope easily with anything that gets past the pump filter.
Save your money for something useful - and that's NOT the dip stick cleaner........
