I have been offered a 2.0 straight 4 pinto engine from a sierra with all the injectors and fuel pump, for a couple hundred £. I already have a type 9 gearbox, and have been told this will bolt straight on. So my question is, has anyone any experience of this engine? Fitting it in a minor? Or any possible drawbacks or issues?

The pinto is much longer than an A Series so some bulkheads mods etc will be required however they can produce some serious power when tuned......

I have seen a pinto fitted to a Minor (a long time ago) and I don't think it had any bulkhead mods, it is just that there was no room for a radiator and I think the bottom pulley was extremely close to the front panel if not sticking out the front.

These engines are extremely heavy and will destroy any decent handling a Minor will have. You will get a much lighter, more powerful and probably cheaper engine (when allowing for tuning of the Pinto to the same output) from a more modern engine such as the Zetec.

I personally would forget the Pinto entirely, and put the money towards a better/more modern engine or even stick with the A series.

The Pinto is a hefty lump and it's not going to fit without a fair bit of work if you want things like a radiator in there. Don't get me wrong, they're a great engine, but not the best choice to put in a Minor. If you want something that'll bolt to the type 9, but is cheaper than the Zetec, take a look at a 1600 X-flow, which will fit without chopping.

Would you be interested in a Fiat engine+box+modified prop+Fiat axle+all mounts+down pipe and stainless exhaust?
Gathered all this for a project that never started.

I'd recommend looking on Retro Rides, you'll be surprised at what turns up there, and there's a big Notts presence there. Better still, sign up there and put a wanted ad there.
There's also a useful 'Pony Express' feature on the forum for moving parts around the country.

I may have found a 1600 crossflow (bored to 1700) engine, which i am seriously considering. Was thinking of mating this to a type 9 (v6, with adapter plate) then to a mk2 escort rear axle, and re-drill my front marina uprights to ford pcd. Any feedback on this idea would be appreciated, or if anyone has any spare parts lying around for this conversion please pm me.

That sounds like a good plan to me.
It is possible to shorten the input shaft of the V6 box, so a 4-cylinder bellhousing can be used, which will mate up to the crossflow engine.
It might be worth talking to Retro Ford (the specialist, not the magazine), and 105speed, as they can give you some info/tips etc.

I have done this with the 2ltr pinto and the engine is bullet proof but they cost serious amounts of dosh to get the power so to run as stock I cant get the power I want and without putting a pair of webbers on forget it. My engine is coming out and a 2ltr vauxhall red top turbo is going in.[frame][/frame]

i have herd about a 1600 ford crossflow in a minor on a farm down the road from mine however the bloke is hanging on to it apparently, well well see how long that lasts aha
