Probably.
Define "good".

Probably come flying off in your hand if you had to yank on the brake lever in an emergency......

True, the KISS principle and Roy's favourite "Si fractum non sit, noli id reficere" probably both apply.

I had a push bike hand grip lying around. Turn it inside out so the grippy, foamy bit is inside and the smooth bit is outside and that fits the handbrake lever. It's been there a couple of years and is quite a firm fit. Much more user friendly than bare steel.

I have one one mine and the button on the end, which is part of it, has a lock in it.
If you lock it the button gets locked in place and the handbrake cannot be released. If you know what it is and that it can be pulled off it's not much good but to the average car theif who wants to be off as quick as he can, it's a deterrent.

The chap next door was scrapping a Range Rover which had one of these on it (80s era RR, though I suspect its a standard BL part used on most cars of that age) which I rescued and fitted on the traveller I was running at the time. Its a tight push fit on the lever, so not likely to come off in use and feels very different to the original. Not sure I'd actually buy one, but just down to personal taste really. I forgot to take it off when I sold the car but as I use a Series 2 daily at the moment it would have been of little use on that anyway...
