why didnt you ask the insurance company when they would?
you will probably need 5 years NCD and be over 21

That's.........odd.........to me. Wrong, maybe. I don't know how insurance works in the UK but in the US, if you're willing to pay the price, they insure everybody, regardless of engine size. (Of course many many people opt for 'state minimum coverage' screwball scams that pay for practically nothing, but have low premiums.)

Of course Americans are famous for the overzealous size of their cars.........except me!

Well there might be an insurance company out there who will insure a 17 or 18 year old with a 1600cc twin cam but I'd hate to see the price of the premium :o

the insurance over here is actually very stupid. its done on broad sweeping assumptions of whole ages and genders.

this results in some very strange insurance quotes.
for example:
25 male living at home working pt, no points etc and licence held for 7 years
2003 mgtf, fully comp £720
1969 moggy 1000 £103 fully comp
and finally astoundingly 1981 rolls royce, fully comp £95.

strange but true.
