I removed the windows from the front doors of my '61 2-door and would like to de-rust and repaint the metal base winder attachments
Whats the best method for removing them from the glass without breaking it?[frame]

thanks

The best method is probably to let them rust away
I thought that they were unpainted, I don't think that they were designed to come off, it is easier to clean them in situ

I'm with Mike, they need to be on really.. really ... really tight. Taking them off which will be difficult may take away the strength in the steel. Just rub down and paint in situ.

I managed to get hold of new old stock items (plated) as the old ones were really bad, I stuck the glass in with a neutral cure black silicone product (no rubber infill) and they are still there years later!
If I was you and they are basically sound I would clean up, de rust and paint, otherwise if worse they made need removing and repairing if you can't get new ones.

Agreed, leave the glass alone and paint around it!
