Our 1971 1100 is suddenly able to select all gears without the use of the clutch! The clutch is OK. Any ideas?

How do you know the clutch is ok, have you pulled the gearbox out? Sounds like clutch problem to me.

I initially assumed that the clutch was the problem, and have taken the engine out, and put in a new clutch. The old pressure plate had lost a spring, and was very worn. Hence, I thought I had solved the problem. No such luck!

you don't need the clutch to be able to change gear if you match engine speed to gearbox speed - what is the problem? do you still have drive etc....?

You need to explain rather better! Is the car driving in each gear ?

Half-shaft gone?
Is the prop-shaft turning when it's in gear?
If the speedo shows you are moving, then start looking at the back axle.

It was hard to give details as my daughter was driving when it failed! Propshaft is not turning when pushed, in or out of gear, so axle it is then. Thanks for the help.
