Welding work started this week will update photo's soon[frame][/frame]

23/08/10 welding completed today[frame][/frame]
23/08/10 rear arch plated,nearly completed the off side of the car now..........

26/08/10 Ok so now the near side of the car is nearing completion, all panals and doors line up perfectly, the rust removed and welding completed, so now onto the offside..............

Almost ready to be painted !
01/12/10 Front Grill Shot Blasted[frame][/frame]
01/12/10 Radiator Cowl bottom half welded, decided to take the doors,bonnet and boot lid back off and get shot blasted before painting.[frame][/frame]
10/03/11 Well I know its been a few months but its been cold out there,just had radiator back from reconditioning where they replaced the core.[frame][/frame]

Nice solid looking project, great to see you getting stuck right in, keep us updated with pictures of your progress, its great to share, a problem shared is a problem halfed, as my Grandmother would say.

I wish I had a HUGE garage like that to work in

Space isn't an issue just the deep pockets to continue.............. Charles Ware parts dept love me !
Hopefully the inner wheel arch and tie plate will be welded in today so I can start on the other side.

Meh, original parts were made on enormous, expensive presses, are the parts you are buying made the same way?
Hand made is great in some things, not so much with car body panels.

The parts are pretty much a good fit but do need a bit of working to get the body lines to match up. Stupidly I got the wings painted first which now need doing again but hey ho its all a learning process.

It's not so much about the fit, there is more to it than that.
The quality of the metal is a factor and it's thickness.
Not thicker is better, but differences in thickness set up electrical potentials which may result in corrosion.

Bad fit isn't a good sign.

Not quite sure what you mean,you can't get machined parts any more so the specialist route is the only way to go. Charles Ware has been a specialist for many years and has a factory that produces parts. Surely another Minor back on the road is a good thing isn't it?

I can't find the thread of the car that Jonathon is doing for a forum member? The car came from a specialist dealer from the same area? Can anyone help.

afaik most of their panels are made in Sri Lanka from patterns so the fit will not be correct and I dare say the quality will not be there, certainly wont be as good as a heritage panel or new old stock.

my traveller had a new rear inner wing from CW and the metal worker (a friend of mine, so there was no professional interest there) had a sod of a time fitting it. for the other side he made a panel up for me, from scratch, for nothing. unfortunately friends like that are few and far between!

Absolutely, couldn't agree more.

As others have said, better panels are available.

Well spotted,thats my other car,you can see more pictures on here under "Minor million help please".This 64 Minor under restoration has turned out to be a huge project,much much larger than I ever imagined and quite time consuming,but I think in about a years time it will be back to how it left the factory or perhaps even better,but in its origional form and totally unmolested !

What about the Veyron?

Not mine unfortunately, I did offer a straight swap for my Million but he was having none of it

There was I thinking that you were using the Veyron as a stop-gap until the Minor was finished!

I have driven it, definately not for the faint hearted and a much quicker 0-60 than what we're used to.
