What thickness sheet should be used when effecting a repair to the chassis?

Do you mean the front chassis legs? I used 2mm to butt weld in a small patch (painted both sides) but the floor pans will be 1mm, most of the sill pieces about 1.2mm and the inner sill step.

But really, if the rust hole is in an important area you will be much better off cutting out and replacing whole sections rather than patching.

agreed full sections would be prefferable, however I need to keep the car on the road as its my daily drive and the area to repair is only 1 cm wide by 4 cm long after removing the rot out. I was going to take a little more out so my repeir panel will need to be 2 x 6 cm, but I did not know what thickness it should be on the front legs

The chassis leg that I worked on recently measured .0625" (16 gauge).
