Passenger door handle pin

A while ago the passenger door handle 'fell off' the traveller, and its been driving with only the driverside. On inspection today it fell off because the pin which it pivots on had fallen through but will still stuck in the bottom, having spent literally three hours trying to get it back in it wouldn't go (not enough room to lever it back in) so its now being held in by a big fat split pin, any ideas how to get the original pin back?

Stuck in the bottom of the door? Or stuck in the bottom of the lock mech'?

It was still stuck in the bottom section of the pivot, hanging on there for dear life, but the handle still came off. we have the pin in an ice-cream tub at the moment............

Dan,
I think you'll have to take the lock assy out, then refit the handle. I haven't tried assembling the handle to a lock still fitted to a car, but I know it's pretty tight for room there.
Try & find out why the pin fell out. You might have to put a couple of centre punch marks in the side of it for grip, or use some sort of Loctite (is Loctite in UK too? - if not it's a thread locking liquid).
