MM measurement, please.

Post by RobThomas »

My MM is away at the moment for blasting. Could someone with a working MM please measure the distance from the point where the gearstick comes up when in 1st gear (ie: the centre vertical line of the gearstick) back to the tip of the handbrake when it is down. This distance will tell me how far it is from the pivot point of the gearstick to the handbrake so that I can work out if my remote gearlever will fit in the gap. It worked on a Morris 8 but the handbrake on those is set further back.

Here is the remote with a standard MM gearstick sat on top. Does it make sense, now?

In 1st gear c/l gear lever to tip of handbrake lever = 400 mm
2nd =385 mm
It looks interesting, can you get to the filler plug OK?
What is the bracket in the middle?

Thanks, Mike. The grey bit is the original gearbox top just placed there for comparison. The alloy remote section uses a standard shape gearbox top as a base so it all fits and work exactly the same as a standard box, albeit without the need for one of those pesky gearlever springs.
The bracket in the middle takes a couple of switches.
I need to weld a new end onto the gearlever since the original snapped off.

Bu66er! Just measured it at 450mm. Looks like it is too long unless the handbrake is moved. Shame since it would've been quite nice to have it.[frame]Image[/frame]

The MG assembly pops up throught the same hole as the one for the MM. I guess it would be easier to cut a slot in the cover and just slide it.
