I recently cleaned up and painted my rocker cover. In order to do this thoroughly I removed the old cork gasket. I have a new gasket standing by and am planning to seal the gasket to the rocker cover and leave the other side without sealant so that it can come on and off easily. I am wondering what is best to seal it with? I have two options of using either RTV silicone instant gasket paste or evostick contact glue?[frame][/frame]

The cork gasket should be enough to prevent leaks but if you want to use something then the instant gasket would be OK and would keep the cork gasket fixed to the rocker cover. I don't think the evostick would survive the heat and oil contamination?

Very shiny!! I glue mine to the cover - no nasty sign of bodgers gasket goo showing - and the gasket can be used over and over again.

You need to stick the gasket to the rocker box to ensure that it stays in place when you manoever the rocker box into position on the studs. Use Hylomar or similar blue sealant as it is easy to remove and you will not have to chisel the bits of gasket off as you do with Hermatite.

i know it may seem an odd suggestion, but for ease of removal, go down to your local music shop and buy a bottle/tube of cork grease for woodwind instruments -
this creates an air-tight seal and is removable - i also use it on the hinged and air tight spit valve on the trumpet :p
it's a purple, viscus fluid, but ask for cork grease and most decent shops should carry it.

'Instant Gasket' for the joint between the rocker cover and and the gasket and a smear of grease on the gasket that contacts the head. The instant gasket keeps the gasket sealed nicely to the rocker cover and the grease makes sure that the gasket does not stick to the head. Also very re-usable!

hi iv allways used evostick..i used every brand from hallfords to poundland.over the years.silicone when you fit the rocker pushes the cork gasget out in the rockers.instant gasget is the same so i scrape the old one off with a stanley knife blade and a brillo pad,was it clean and glue it leave over night..its a job done..
