We made progress, Plan B 1275 with halfauds red paint job fired up and ran well.

Crank case breather arangement is a little weird. The engine has a mg metro head and rockerbox with no breather pipe. The timing cover has had the breather cut of and the hole welded up. The breather has then be welded to the mechanical fuel pump cover.

What do you think about breathing throught the old fuel pump hole?

It's a common modification to allow better breathing and I think it was used as standard on the MG Metro turbo.

If you wanted more breathing from the rocker box, then you could fit a Moggy one with a breather pipe.

I don't like the idea of the timing cover breather welded up. If I were you I would get a new cover with a breather on it.

I am with Cam on that it will probably lead to pressurisation problems, it has probably been done to clear the fan, but 1 of 2 things should have been done, the flame trap should have been cut and changed to a `D` shape rather then the original round shape or trimmed of below the flame trap and then extended to be at the side of the block I have seen both methods used succesfully.

I have just built a 1275 Marina engine for my wife's Traveller and have welded up the timing cover and made a breather pipe to mount on the fuel pump aperture. I do not believe I shall have any pressurisation problems with this set up, as the block cannot possibly build up any being as it is vented to atmosphere.

There is a problem with this method if you have a 1275cc Midget engine as they often dont have the fuel pump aperture and would require the block to be machined.

I have a new timing cover but the timing marks are in a different place??

the mg metro turbo used the fuel pump hole as the oil return for the turbo.
