Hi,

Does anyone know what thread the nuts for fixing the bumpers on are? None of the suppliers have them in stock at the moment and their websites don't quote the thread size!

I was curious myself after reading your thread and just unbolted one rear bumper nut and tried it with a tap - it is 1/2 BSF, 16tpi. (The flats are 7/16 Whitworth spanner).

That would be a very good idea!

They are the same size as the wheel nuts. I found this out when I took the bumper off and one of the nuts was a wheel nut.

" They are the same size as the wheel nuts " - not normally! Wheel studs are 3/8" UNF thread on any Minor I have dealt with! CJ has confirmed the bumper nuts are 1/2" BSF thread - on his car at least!

I think Jollyroger was refering to the bumper coach bolt nuts and not the main bumper iron fixing nuts.

The original post is not clear on which nuts refered to - but he now has details of both

I did think the original poster meant the two nuts that hold the bumper assembly to the bumper irons!!! Sorry if I mislead anyone by my good intention!

And to deepen the mystery, the chrome nuts that hold the chrome dome headed bolts that fix chrome bumper blade to bumper valance to bumper mounting spring are 5/16BSF thread with 1/4 Witworth hexagon (spanner) size. So how could you use a wheel nut to hold these on?

Definitely asking about the big nuts that hold the entire bumper to the body as opposed to any of the other ones which hold the bumper parts together! All the more reason to have a sticky

In that case those are definitely 1/2BSF nuts. I don't understand how someone got a wheel nut holding theirs on, unless a previous owner, unaware that 1/2 BSF nuts are available for about 50p each from Namrick, drilled out a wheel nut an tapped a 1/2 BSF thread into the nut???

The big nuts were the ones I was talking about.

I think that one side is RH thread 1/2"BSF?

One of the 4 wheel nuts that fit on the wheel studs.

Either your car has unique wheel studs Jolly - or unique bumper mounts!

No way is a rear bumper mounting nut the same as a wheel nut. I will take some pics tomorrow as proof!

i,m in the market for one of the same nuts just went on the namrick site,nut is 47pence but the minimal postage is £2.61 anyone out there got a spare said nut for sale
