Hi i am a new member on this forum and i thought i would say hi
My wife has just bought her first morris minor and we picked it up last night , my wife has wanted one for a long long time. it was just by chance that we came by this one on the side of the road with a for sale sign on are way home from a long weekend away . It's a 1955 split screen and its not in that bad of condition , the engine does run which is good as the last time it was on the road was in 1998 .
here are a few pictures of us getting the morris last night[frame]

the plans for the morris is to get her on the road as soon as we possible can. my wife does not mind what the paint looks like just as long as it is safe to drive

Welcome to the site and welcome to minor ownership! If that is the original interior (and it looks like it is) then I think the original colour of your car was Smoke Blue/maroon interior which is quite rare.

ICI Paint ref 3306. There is a thread somewhere on the board but i can't seem to find it at the mo. I'm certain someone will soon post a link to it

The interior was maroon..... just found the colour. Search "toomany" in cars for sale. He was advertising a car in that colour. Don't confuse this colour with the later Smoke grey which is lighter pale blue - almost pale grey.

Welcome to the message board

Smoke blue was only used for a short period - October '54 to February '55 - hence the reason why there aren't too many Minors in that colour still around. Here's the thread that Lou is referring to:

why was it only used for such a short time ? thanks for letting me know about how rare this colour is . that has made up my wife's mind as for what colour the morris is going to be .
I have a friend of mind that is going to have a look at the car and do a pre mot check for us , then this is what we are going to concentrate on
my wife now has a name for the car , it's going to be called Florence as in Florence and the machine

The over plans we have for the car is to keep her as original as possible , we will only upgrade something if it needs to be done, she is only going to be a little chug chug for my wife to drive around in

Here is a smoke blue minor in good condition to give you an idea what it would look like, yours is only the fourth smoke blue car I have ever come across (that includes this picture and the one in the link above) so this is a very rare colour!
For originality's sake the wheels and grille would be painted blue to match and not white
Good luck with the project!

Don't know - perhaps the colour just wasn't liked by the car buyers of the time and didn't sell well? It was replaced by sandy beige with a maroon interior but you don't see many of those about either!
