On our ’61 2 door, what, if anything, keeps the front seats from going sideways?
I see small holes in the tubular seat frame and wonder if there should be self-tapping screws in there? Or some other form of lateral restraint? Or maybe they’re not required?
BTW, the car is going to have to pass a safety inspection. When I get it all finished.

Yes - mine has little screws in there so the heads locate (loosely) outside the hold-down straps.

Have you got the thin metal plates that sit on top of the carpet, under the brackets?
My self tapping screws disappeared long ago but the brackets seem to hold the seats in place

Some P O had removed the original hold-downs and butchered the floor up by drilling holes through the floor and seat brackets, and then installed large u-bolts to hold the seats down.
The whole floor was pretty rotten so it was cut out and replacement panels were procured and welded in, plus some other panels. After looking at the price of the new seat brackets I decided to make my own and then welded them in. I also made new hold-downs and plates out of 1” x 1/8” stainless. Dunno how wide the original hold-downs were, so I used the material I had on hand.[frame]

Maybe your brackets are slightly larger than the originals, they look a better quality though.
