fuel starvation

Hi All
I have just my car in the garage after fitting fuel pump diaphram,it ran for about 15 20 mins then stopped, checked fuel supply but no fuel getting to carb although pump still ticking away
Any ideas

have you tried the filter at the bottom of the pump undo the nut at the bottom and check it it may be gunked up

i have checked and cleaned this when i done diaphram all ok and clean

Try pumping from a tin of petrol. If that works then the problem is in the supply to the pump.
Have you changed the filler cap? If the breather in the cap is blocked the pump will create a vacuum in the tank and stop the supply

Did you stretch out the diaphragm correctly when you fitted it ? Could be the pump is short-stroking and not able to suck fuel up from the tank.

Stretch diaghram?? did not know you needed to,how do you do this?

I believe during the installation - I think you have to make sure it's able to flex before tightening the screws around the rim. Why did you fit a new diaphragm - in all the years I have used SU pumps - I've never had to do such a thing!

Fitted new one as needed gskt for base and was told can only buy it as a kit whitch came with diaphram so thought may as well fit it,I think that this was a bad move

Section B5 of the workshop manual details - and has the useful advice " Before tightening these (refers to the six screws) down it is essential that the diaphragm should be stretched to it's outermost position"
