Unless I actually reply to an email or delete it, it stays on the list as unread. I am building up a list of unread emails that have been opened but do not need a reply.
Solution please

Is the problem that they are marked as unread when they are actually read?
Have a look in the settings, you may find one that defines how long an email needs to be open before its marked as read.

Excuse my ignorance but where do I find settings?
My computer knowledge is the equivalent of not knowing a starting handle from a plug spanner

The icon under where it says Susan Walker that has a spanner looks like the one.

If it's the bottom version it's the link that says settings!

I 've got the spanner, trouble is I have not got a clue what any of the settings mean

Best to phone the 1&1 help desk or support then.

I'd expect the setting to say something like; mark mail as read after N seconds.
It might not be available or might even be under advanced settings.

I have got around the problem by clicking on reply and then closing the email.

Whatever works for you, if you are paying for this account then call their help desk and get it sorted out properly.
Otherwise what are you paying for?

It is the MMOC account I think, that is why I am suprised that a moderator has not jumped in with an answer.

I don't use the webmail, neither do the moderators. Most of the people with MMOC accounts just have them redirected to their usual account. Markyb knows more about it than I do, but I'll have a look when I get a chance

If you put them in you blocked list that will help until you unsubscribe.
