When to renew flywheel?

I've got the engine and gearbox out of Mog at the moment, and the flywheel is rather worn. I was intending to renew the ringear, but it costs £25 that I don't have...plus shipping across an ocean and half a continent. So I was wondering if I could get away with not renewing the teeth right now.

I fully understand that it'd be best to do it now, and that I'll have to rip the engine back out to do it when it finally needs it.

Whaddaya think? I can take more pictures if you need other angles.

Looks no worse than mine. Did it start okay when it was running? If so, let sleeping mogs lie!

Seconded, the teeth can wear away to a nubbin and still work OK.

If it aint broke..... don't fix it!

Instead...
Spend the money on seam sealer, stone chip paint and underbody wax protection to look after all the welding work you have done!

Just use the starting handle instead........... :-?

It will be fine for many years to come.

Glad to see these responses as the teeth on mine were badly worn on one side when I last had the box off and had a look!

Wonderful! I've just saved £40, including shipping. CJ -- good suggestion! And I've now added the missing starting handle collar, BMC, so I can actually start it by hand now! :D
