since i installed my shinny new horns (circa 1953), Primrose has become all nostalgic.

when i turn the ignition key, the ignition light comes on, as well as the oil pressure light. usually on turning the key further, the engine starts. normal practice.

However, primrose dosnt like this, so when i turn the key to start her, the ignition light and oil light goes out and i get a faint tick from the engine bay. sometimes if i keep the key in this position she will start, other times she wont, thus the handle is required.

its a nice new starter motor and a new solenoid, i havent disturbed the starter circuit at all and only discovered this new problem after i had driven down into work, which started off with a normally.

so, whats wrong with her?

sounds like an earth problem to me, i would start by making sure the battery terminals are tightened up correctly followed by cleaning up all the connections if that does not work

Yes it has got to be a wiring problem, as above check the battery terminals. Have you still got those useless screw on cups? If so then replace them with clamps. Also check the battery earth onto the body and the strap underneath from the body to the gearbox.
Check the connections on the solenoid and the starter motor and also check the starter motor bolts are tight.

Why pay good money to have that done? It's easy to DIY.
