New Exhaust

Post by rsawatson »

I had a new exhaust fitted on Wednesday as the old one was beginning to blow from the back of the silencer... the new one is an absolute beast! It's about twice as loud and gives amaaaazing rasps when you change gear and roars when accelerating quickly :D.

How come the old one did not sound like this? As far as it looks it's of the same construction: standard one piece.

Is it stainless ? They do tend to resonate a bit more. Definitely not leaking at the joint with the manifold ? It's always possible they 'forgot' to put the stuffing in the silencer!! If not happy - take it back to the supplier.

I'm pretty sure it's not stainless - it was the cheapest kind available. All joints seem fine as the noise definitely comes out of the back of the pipe. I have heard other Minors with exhausts as loud, so I think it's okay... just different! I'm pleased with it, adds to the character!

I had a stainless exhaust fitted as recommended by ESM, the chap there said they had quite a distinctive sound, I love mind, i'm sure that's what turns people's heads when I pass by, a shiny car with a rasping sound.

Pretty sure mine's not stainless but it definitely does grumble when you accelerate from low down the rev range. Absolutely gorgeous sound.

New systems tend to be a bit louder until the insides get coated with soot etc.
Trouble with my LCB twin silencer system is that it does not sound like a Minor any more

Mine has a gorgeous note as I've fitted an exhaust tip (£6 and just screws on the end. Its an inch wide i think). Any chance of a video :D

Just J-j-j-jiggle it a bit.

 You can make it stick out as much as you like ;). Mine comes out the same length as the original pipe so looks just like a wider bore.
