MM original seat upholstery method

Anyone worked out how they managed to assemble the front seat upholstery with the separate card bits on those front seats? I've a full set from Newton but they are 1 piece covers so I've acquired a similar leather set in the correct style.
I've a feeling that there will be a few sleepless nights with these seats!.
