Series MM Rear Wings

Can somene kindly tell me how to recognize a Series MM rear wing from the later Minor ones. I know that the Series MM wing has a much larger wheel arch area but I'm not sure I will recognize which is which when viewing mudguards which are not fitted to a car. Can anyone give me some vital measurements so that i will be sure not to end up buying the wrong wings.

Also are 2-door Series MM rear wings interchangeable with those fitted on the 4-door MMs?

If you measure the wheelarch gap across the bottom of the wing it should be approx 29 in or 74 cm. A M1000 wing will be less.
2 and 4 door rear wings are the same (see earlier post on bodywork). Most MM rear wings are reprofiled from M1000 wings

Hi Malta MM,

Another detail to look out for is that MM rear wings do not have and angled strengthener fitted inside the bottom edge to stop them flapping at speed. All later 1000 wings have this even after the wheel arch is altered to look like an MM.

It just depends how 'original' you want the car to be?

I just went to see a couple of original rear wings for sale locally but they were in poor condition, rusty where they are attach to the body, packed with filler at the bottom edges and with holes cut in them to accomodate VW Beetle rear lights! In other words definitely not worth spending money on them. My Series MM was fitted with brand new Morris Minor 1000 rear wings fitted with the original MM rear lights when restored 3 years ago. I have access to a professional body shop run by an enthusiast close friend of mine and i'm sure that after some beer bribes he will be well up to the challenge of reprofiling my 1000 wings. I take it that it is just the wheel arch aperture which is different from Minor 1000 wings and that all fixing points are identical. Is this a case of obtaining the exact measurements of the MM wheel arch and cutting the wings, obvously reforming the angled strenghtener afterwards? Has anyone attempted this job or at least had it done by a specialist?

I will try to give you some measurements for the correct profile. Mine were new two years ago and are supposed to be Heritage wings so they should be fairly accurate.

I have tried a dimensioned photo but it will not load up so here are the main dimensions, all in centimetres
The front of the wing from the edge to the piping = 7
The rear of the wing to the piping = 53.5
The wheel arch opening along the bottom edge = 74
If you lay a piece of wood along the bottom of the wheel arch and measure from the centre of the hub cap to the end of the body coachline moulding the distance to the bottom of the wing = 37.5 and the wing to the piping = 22.

What are the dimensions from the later wings?
I have also a few donor wings, all of them are 7 cm from the front, but the wheel arch opening 72 cm..
the rear is between 53 and 54 cm, are these bad repaired original wings, or not perfect modified later wings?

On an earlier pair of rear wings, fitted at different times, the distance from the piping to the front of the wheel arch was different on each side.

I purchased an early wing for my MM series which had a completely different profile to any other wing I had - no idea why. I didn't use it despite it being in mint condition.
I really don't think accuracy was something that was understood when these cars were current [frame][/frame][frame][/frame]
