hi all, i would like anyones opinion, i am currently on the look out for radial tyres for my traveller, i know that the best size for these rims are 145 14 or 155 14, however i am in the part worn market due to cost, i can't afford £250 for a new set.
Does anyone know if 155/65/14 tyres would be ok, personally i don't see why not as the 65 is only the profile. has anyone had problems with this profile? do they look out of place? do they handle ok? feel safe? any ideas would be appreciated.
This size is pretty common and i can find them quite cheap.
cheers

They will be smaller rolling radius......... not ideal. And won't fill the arch very well - may look a bit odd. But new tyres are surely not £250 for a set anyway - I'm fairly sure new 155x80x14 are only about £35 each ? And often there are part used tyres on here - ask in 'Wanted'!

what are you expecting to pay for your tyres?
it take it you know how to read the age of tyres and are aware that anything over 6/7 years old is only good for the bin as the tyres will be perished

that's the problem with writing you can never tell if someone is having a laugh
on a serious note the toyo tyres are nice tyres, at least in the dry.. got them earlier this year and have not had the chance to try them in the wet

As usual with the Minor - spares (including tyres etc) are remarkably cheap compared to 'modern' car parts! The Bully tyres seem to be a good bargain to me...........

the 65 profile tyres are not a very good option.
Standard tyres are 80 profile, however the Minor was designed for bigger profile than 80 (crossplys) and even with 80 profile your gearing and speedo accuracy are slightly affected. The effect is small but obviously less small with 65 profiles...
Added to that, the tyre sidewall helps cushion the ride and also protects the tyre and rim from being damaged (e.g. hitting big potholes).
Modern car suspension is designed for lower profile tyres - however the current trend/fashion for big rims and very low profile tyres reduces fuel economy. So much so that on many cars they have to list the fuel economy figures seperately for their versions with alloys as they are less economical than the ones with steels + slightly larger profile tyres. If they're unlucky, the big alloys +low profile tyres can put the version into a higher emmissions category (if they are near the borderline anyway)
