ok what modern seats are suitable for my 4dr as she needs all replaced can any one sugest anything that will fit and will be easy to fit ?

For most seat conversions you will need an adapter frame which bolts to the floor with four fixings. Most of the small/medium BL/Rover seats should fit, but remember that you will lose rear seat legroom

You can make just about anything fit - but for originality - Minor seats are best. If they are sagging - just fit new straps!

see i took the seats out as they were looking a little saggy and the passenger one looked a little lopsided and basically it had been broke at some point and then half repaired with a very bad weld with the seat not lined back up so i dont know if i will be able to save that one and so far having trouble finding originals that wont cost too much :0)oh and that are red

My passenger seat was also lopsided, stripped it down, re-straightened the frame and rewelded again for strength. Back together and looks perfect. Remember if it's metal it can be repaired with a belting and welding.

if you replace the straps also replace the foam, it does make a very big difference

The covers come off - so any seat frame will do - just swap the covers......... Old seats are often given away - I have done in the past - and it was red........ And yes - frame can easily be repaired.

I have changed my seats for the Newton Commercial highback recliners. They are very flexible as you can change the driving position easily from one person to another in seconds. Only drawback = the cost - around £700 (pair) today! I've had mine 3 years now and just bought another set for the Convertible as they're so comfortable for long/motorway journeys.

no i think there is probably an even mix of repair and replace..

if you need the rear seats to be useable on long journeys I would say repair but if you do not use the back seats go with some more modern seats..

I fitted a pair of Maestro leather recliners £30 pair plus a lot more for the adapter frames, in my Traveller. Lovely and comfortable.
I would not dream of changing my Series MM seats even if they are falling apart.

MOST folks continue with the standard seats - a few Lottery Winners upgrade to Newton Commercial seats - and some others fit seats from other cars. But a survey of the cars at classic shows - produces mostly standard seats I think.

MG Metro seats in one of mine and Rover 200 seats in the other - If you do a lot of miles they are more comfy but not worth the effort and sacrifice of rear leg / foot room if you just use it as a Sunday car. Once restuffed and restrapped the original seats are not too bad at all....

ok when she is back on the road she will be my everyday car and i have kids so back seats will be used and i would rather not pay £700 for seats even if they do look good and comfy :0)

I'm sure someone nearby will offer to weld up your frame.................

yes i can get it welded :0) wasnt sure if i should or not or if i should get a replacement or even if i should get modern alternative im not rushing to get tonks done as i still have my other car and i want to get it right
