Maniflow v. stainless steel

Opinions wanted!

I run a Traveller with a 1275 Marina engine and Ford 5-speed box fitted with a standard stainless steel exhaust system for the 1275 engine. Despite sound proofing I still get a lot of exhaust noise especially at 65 - 70 mph

Last week Badger and I looked at a trav with a similar spec to mine but fitted with a Maniflow exhaust system, this car didn't have any fancy sound proofing but certainly ran quieter

So, any comments/experience of exhaust systems on a 1275?

Many thanks

When you say " standard stainless steel exhaust system for the 1275 engine " - is that a standard Minor stainless system - or a big bore system ? Is it on an LCB - or a big bore 1275 exhaust manifold ? Stainless steel does tend to resonate more than mild steel - and own standard Minor stainless system soon became very noisy - I suspect the internals may not have been stainless - and soon disappeared! Maniflow have a very good reputation in 'Mini' world for performance manifolds and systems - but not inexpensive!

Stainless steel does tend to be noisier than mild steel.
Some exhaust wrap should reduce the resonance and the under bonnet temperature.

Well worth looking at is where the exhaust exits with regard to the rear bumper.

I significantly reduced the exhaust noise on a Traveller I drive by fitting one of those chrome trims that direct the exhaust towards the ground.

I think the rear bumper directs sound waves back towards the car.

The saloon I had with the large bore system suffered a lot of resonance. Lining the boot and lid with underlay helped. I now have the same system on my convertible. Somehow the roof traps the sound. It's much quieter roof down - even at 70mph!
