Brake spring position, wolseley 1500 drums

Evening everyone, once again I do apologise for not being around much recently. But im back from Uni now for the summer, so work has once again commenced on XTT 433

Im very close to getting the car back down on its wheels now, but first off I have to sort the front brakes. The question I have is, what location do the springs go in? I have converted to Wolseley 1500 9" drums, and therefore dont have the manual to refer to.
Ive put a couple of pictures in to show how Ive currently got them set up, they show the offside drum. There are a couple of holes on each shoe, so im guessing there can be a few different configurations?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.




The current set up means the springs rub on the cylinders

Yes - that's fine - they are just bigger Minor brakes.

Good to see you back....... I just used the 8" cross feed brake pipes on the 9" brakes - seemed to be plenty long enough.

Yes I did the same, used the copper ones with brass fittings from ESM. Carefully bent them into shape, worked a treat.
More pics to follow, I have the hubs to fit and drums to spray and fit etc.

Also, mildly related, I want to drop the car down onto its wheels so i can move it about for painting etc. Can i just get the kingpins rougly at the same height and lock the torsion bars in place with no pre-load, just as a temporary until i set and trim them once all the heavy stuffs back in the car?

I fitted my springs in the farthest of the two holes in the brake shoe. Actually as I only had two Wolseley springs I fitted one each side on the front cylinder and a shorter Morris spring on the closer holes on the back cylinder. It seems to work until I get two more Wolseley springs.

I'll admit to just using the 8" springs!!
