escort mk 2 diff

Hi all, i shall soon be rebuilding an escort mk2 rs2000 diff but i have one small problem, the pinion seal in the diff is ripped and just broken but still lies within the diff cover, i need to know how to get that one out and replace it with the new one i have bought, im extremely puzzled about this,

The seal has a thin steel shell bonded into the runner of the seal. You will need something like a large flat blade screw driver and a hammer to tap it out from the inside of the diff. The new one must be tapped into the housing from the outside. Tap it in using something which is round/similar O/D to the seal body, maybe a very large socket, and make sure it goes in square.
If you are puzzled about the seal, are you aware of the bearing preloads and the pinion crushable sleeve (between bearings)?
Are you replacing all the bearings? Also, do you know how to set up the gear mesh and crownwheel backlash correctly?

Sorry about slightly duff info in my previous post, it has been a while since I built one of these diffs.
You will need to prise the seal out from outside the diff casing, you can't push it out from inside the diff casing because a pinion bearing is there, doh!
My questions about the diff settings to you were really to see if you understood how to set the diff up and what was required, if getting a seal out puzzles you then should you be attempting the rest?
The gear mesh needs to be adjusted to arrive at the correct mesh pattern using engineers blue on the gear teeth, the crownwheel backlash is around 4 thou of an inch and must be set up with a dial test indicator. The bearing preload is by feel, the motion just going slightly stiff when turned by hand, but don't over do it. Crown wheel and pinion must always be a matched pair, don't be tempted to swap between other crown wheel/pinion sets you might have.
I will see if I can find my info on setting the crown wheel mesh.

thanks for replies, i think im ok rebuilding it, i have my friend whos a mecanic helping me, i just couldnt understand how to fit something bigger than the hole through the hole... and all the bearings are fine, been well lubricated and look pretty new, just the seal has been ripped so thats only thing to be replaced.

The exploded view of diff I have looks like there is a shim betweencrush sleeve and bearing
maybee?but it would be alot of work to set up.

Some seals can be removed by punching 2 or 3 small holes in them, then screw in sheet metal screws which gives something to pull on.
