A GARAGE NEAR CAMBRIDGE AND COLOUR QUESTION

Hello

I have just bought a blue 1970/71 series 5 traveller that was MOT'd 3 days ago. It has been garaged and only done 500 miles in the past two years. I want to have it checked over to see what mechanical repair/improvement work might be required or desirable. Can anyone recommend a good garage for this? I am located in Cambridge, so the nearer the better.

Also I want to find out what colour it is? I have checked both on the members site (just joined) and on various web sites and based on its chassis number it appears to be either Teal blue with Limeflower trim or Bedouin with Autumn Leaf trim? But I can not find out on the web which is which? Here is a web link to a photo of it:

Thank you

Hi Paulo,

Welcome to the messageboard.

Your link doesn't show pictures of the interior colour but Bedouin is a beige colour so out of your two options I'd say that your traveller is teal blue :D

I can't recommend any garages near Cambridge but hopefully someone will be along soon to advise as we have a few members in the Cambridge area.

Contact Stephenpolhill a poster on this site. He is in St. Neots and may be able to help re the garage, and I agree with Lou it does look like the Traveller is Teal Blue which would be right for 1970

Trafalgar Blue was available for Travellers after 1969 (see Potteries Paint Identification chart)

Well the poster does say that based on the chassis number it is either teal blue or bedouin.

Do you know the exact date of registration? And knowing what colour the interior is will help. Is it light blue or a bit of a strange yellowy / green colour?

If it's light blue the car is likely to be trafalgar blue although I supoose it's possible that the interior might have been changed at some time, and that the car has had a respray!

The interior is a strange yellow/green as you say. The registration document says it was first registered in March 1971 and its a J reg. Based on the chassis number and information from the Morris Minor centre web site and on the Potteries owners club site it says it is Teal Blue and Limeflower interior. As someone posted, it looks more like Trafalgar blue based on other cars photos I have seen. I guess it might have resprayed in a different colour at some point in its life?

On the Minor Mania web site is says that:
In the period between 1969 and 1971, Travellers and commercial vehicles were also built at the Adderley Park plant in Birmingham and were finished in a different range of colours as shown below. Note that production records from the Adderley plant were destroyed so chassis numbers for the introduction and discontinuation of paint colours are not available.
And in this list it has Teal blue, Bermuda Blue, Azure Blue and Persian Blue.

Absolutely no hesitation in recommending Ian Allen of Minor Services , 53 Main Street, Witchford, near Ely. CB6 2HG. 01353 662 485. He's more into full restoration but also does repairs and would certainly be a good starting point.

I think the liklihood is that the car started life in Teal blue with limeflower interior but has since been resprayed in trafalgar blue :)
