Hi All
My 1961 convertible is in need of a new hood. The existing vinyl seems quite old and was on the car when we bought her 5 years ago. Its now splitting and gaffer tape is not the best finish. Before we do the replacement can anyone on the forum give the pros and cons of the different types on the market vinyl, mohair, canvas etc.
What would the original have been?
She lives outside in the summer and is parked near trees and is garaged over the winter.
Look forward to hearing from the forum

Welcome. As the car is going to be under trees I would replace the existing hood with a good quality vinyl one. Although the Mohair hoods are more luxurious looking they can mark. You can wipe clean a vinyl one. Any of the morris suppliers stock these in varous colours usually starting about £170 ish + VAT.

Yes, I agree, go for the wipe clean vynil one if the car lives outside. Its correct for a '61 anyway. I went for tan mohair on my '53 and its, er, very difficult to keep clean.... :(

Went for the vinyl one. Used local car upholsterer in Berwick to fit it and the car looks magnificent. Thanks for the advice
