Its not a factory engine number so it must have been reconditioned at some point. The numbers will only mean anything to the actual reconditioner as there are no set standards to folow.... The only recognisable recon numbers are the factory ones for silver and gold seal engines.

Was told it was gold seal, it is painted gold but I am not convinced it is gold seal.
It does run very sweet though.

How it runs is most important....
From 1956 to around 1968 eorks recons were identified with the first 2 letters "8G" for an A series. After this and up to the end they were labeled "RKE" however, I believe the RKE engines were not done at the factory but were contracted out to another engineering firm.

The only factory replacement engines( manual) I can find in the 1275 catogory are---bhm 1220 =A+ 1275gt (mini)
bhm 1209e = gold seal 1300gt innocenti
( mini)
the others bhm numbers are 850 and 1100 minis. These are of course transverse units, but imagine yours is an inline engine which it appears has also the bhm prefix. All info from the Mini spares catalogue.

I believe the BHM No's are actually the part numbers for new replacement engines. my engine no is BHM1448N have so far been unsuccessful in finding out what it means (not that I've tried very hard) I bought it as an unused short block at an auto jumble, most likely late Ital
